We are Animal Welfare advocates.
We make a distinction between Animal Welfare and Animal Rights.
"Animal Rights" is a theory, and lifestyle, which claims that animals have the same "rights" as humans, and therefore should not be "exploited". This leads to the comparison that livestock farming – of any kind – is equivalent to human slavery and genocide. Consequently, all Animal Rightists are vegans (not just vegetarians).
Animal Welfare, however, is a different concept and Animal Welfarists include omnivores and vegetarians.
POLICIES
Establish an Animal Abuse Register
People who are convicted of the abuse of animals should be put on the register for a number of years, prohibiting them from owning any animals.
Encourage Small Birds by Controlling Dominant Birds in Towns and Cities
We must find a way to control the level of seagulls, magpies and crows in town and cities. It is these large and aggressive birds which kill and eat the small birds, their eggs and fledglings, and is the major reason why we rarely see little birds any more in these areas.
Furthermore, infestations of seagulls and their noise can also make city centre living unpleasant.
Flocks of pigeons, as well as being unhygienic in built-up areas, also monopolise food sources and feeding grounds, which in turn denies food to the small birds and starves them. They also empty grain feeders quickly, leaving nothing for the small birds. People who feed pigeons don't understand the damage they are doing to the bird life eco-system (as well as encouraging rats to nest in areas where pigeons are fed).
The domination of pigeons and seagulls in town and city centres can be emblematic of decline.
Compulsory Muzzling of Pitbulls in Public
Any Pitbull, or derivation thereof, shall be muzzled in public. These dogs can be a clear and present danger to everyone, especially to small children (and other dogs).
Failure to muzzle in public should be met with a severe fine, and in the case of a second offender, he or she shall be prohibited from keeping the dog.
Those whose muzzle-required dogs have attacked people should be immediately prohibited from owning any further dogs. In order to ensure effective operation of this law, there shall be a system of…
Dog Licensing
A system of dog licencing will enable owners of dangerous breeds to be recorded. This will also ensure that those whose dogs have attacked a human, shall be unable to possess such dogs again. Furthermore, it will ensure that those convicted of animal cruelty are unable to acquire dogs in the future.
An End to Factory Farming
Battery cages for laying hens have been illegal in the UK since 1 January 2012. However, we advocate a complete end to the so-called "enriched cages" which remain legal.
We oppose intensive farming of turkeys, ducks and pigs and we advocate research and development and subsidies to be directed to help agriculture move towards more natural and organic methods of production.
Rigid Application of Quality Control to keep out Food Imports which do not Conform to our Animal Welfare Standards.
These cheap imports are directly responsible for putting our British farmers out of business, as well as being morally indefensible by our own standards.
We oppose Halal and Shechita Slaughter Methods, and the importation of such meat.
Slaughter methods should be improved to minimise animal trauma.
An End to Vivisection
There is no animal testing for cosmetics allowed in Britain and it is illegal to import such items. While we recognise that, in some cases, there may still be a need to use animal testing in medical research, we aim to phase this out and encourage alternative research methods.
